The Schuylkill chapter of the American Red Cross is now part of the Northeast Pennsylvania Region.

Janet Curtis, who for the past seven years has been the executive director of the American Red Cross of Schuylkill and Eastern Northumberland counties, said Tuesday she now is executive director for Schuykill and Berks counties.

"It's really very exciting," she said.

There were previously three regions in eastern Pennsylvania, according to Curtis, but Schuylkill now joins a region with Berks, Monroe and the Greater Lehigh Valley.

"Those three regions effective today are combined," she said.
